Louisiana Travel Association honors Senator Sharon Hewitt with prestigious tourism award
Alexandria, La. (Jan. 31, 2019) – During its Annual Meeting last week, the Louisiana Travel Association (LTA) honored Sen. Sharon Hewitt with the Governmental Friend of Tourism Award for her support of economic development and tourism funding.
In 2017, Senator Hewitt began leading a valiant effort to review the $1 billion in statutory dedications within the state’s budget. As the Co-chair of the Dedicated Fund Review Subcommittee of the Joint Legislative Committee on the Budget, she along with other committee members have been methodically reviewing each of the almost 400 dedications.
“Throughout this challenging process, Sen. Hewitt has taken the time to sit down with us to discuss the benefits of those dedications that affect tourism,” said Jill Kidder, LTA president and CEO. “Her acknowledgment of tourism’s significant return on investment makes her a champion for our industry. It is our privilege to honor state legislators who are working to find solutions that better all of Louisiana.”
LTA honored Sen. Hewitt at its Annual Meeting last week at Holiday Inn Alexandria-Downtown in Alexandria, La. The association also recognized 14 tourism entities from across the state with “Louey Awards” for their outstanding contributions to the Louisiana tourism industry.
